About Us
St. Philip Pharmacy has been in operation since 1991. In March 2009, the management was taken over by Family Camilleri from Siġġiewi, after their three daughters showed an active interest in pursuing a career in the healthcare sector. The eldest and youngest siblings, Ms. Eliza Vella and Ms. Kirsty Camilleri are pharmacists working at the forefront of patient care in the community. They are also assisted by Mr. Matthew Vella; Ms. E. Vella’s husband who is also a pharmacist. Ms. Ilona Camilleri takes care of internal operations and is currently undertaking a University degree in Food Sciences.
Within a couple of years the pharmacy went through a relocation of premises to better accommodate the fast growing needs of its patients. Today, it is located right in the heart of the quaint village of Għaxaq, next to the playing field and primary school, offering a wide range of health and wellness services, including daily general practitioners, specialist consultations, phlebotomy services, an ultrasound service and med-aesthetic services. The centrally located position of the pharmacy in the southern part of the island offers ample parking space for its customers.
Ms. E. Vella is a committee member of the Malta Chamber of Commerce – Healthcare Section, which works to influence the formation of policies at a national level towards the development of an enterprise culture, the creation of favourable economic conditions to the advantage of members, and the interest of the wider community.
Ms E. Vella is also a committee member of the Koperattiva Għas-Servizzi Farmaċewtiċi which aims at buying medicinals in bulk, while ensuring the quality approved by the World Health Organisation, for the benefit of both pharmacists and consumers.
In 2014, Ms. K. Camilleri published the first English-Maltese Dictionary of Pharmaceutical and Medical Terms. This highly anticipated project, paved the path for standardization of translations of pharmaceutical and medical documents in our mother tongue. The major driving force behind this was to increase the public’s scientific knowledge and decrease potential medication errors through a thorough understanding of pharmaceutical literature. This dictionary is currently available in all leading bookshops across the Maltese Islands.
